Indoor Fats Garage Sale!

Do to life happenings, I will be moving to N.Y. in about a week and a half. To make a little extra money for the trip, and to get rid of some clothes, I decided to to have an Indoor garage sale. I will have some trendy clothes, office wear, club clothes, accessories, shoes, cosmetics, and a whole lot of etc, for sale. The clothes will range from 18-22, and tops from XL-2XL. Shoes from 9-11. Prices will range from $2-$40, and probably a "free" pile of random stuff. Since I am moving, I prefer cash, but can take Paypal as well. I would like to do this by appointment with 1-3 people per appointment. This gives you time to go through things at your own pace, and is a little less overwhelming for me than having a lot of people here at once. If this is something that you are interested in, please leave a message with a day and time that will be good for you to stop by and I will p.m. you with my address and phone number.
Also, if anyone is interested, I can post example pictures of my stuff.

Love this doctor!

I went to http://www.parkwestfp.com/ for a Pap Smear, and generally had a pleasant experience with the doctor. I've gone to this facility a number of times, but never was seen by Dr. Kapur before. She never made me feel uncomfortable with the whole procedure, and was very informative. She did mention weight loss, but that was only brought up once we talked about my family medical history. Since I've been living in Chicago I've has nothing but bad experiences with doctors about weight loss; from one doctor making my whole visit about how much I weigh ( when I went in because I sprained my ankle), to another doctor telling me that I should work at a lingerie store because being surrounded by skinny people will motivate me to lose the 100 lbs she thought I should lose ( note: those 2 doctors were not doctors at Park West). Dr. Kapur suggested that losing 25 lbs would put me at a more healthy weight for my body. If I lost 25 lbs I would weight 220, and would still be fat, and she was completely fine with that! I'm making Dr. Kapur my primary doctor and I think she is worth checking out if you are looking for a doctor!

January swap? (was December Swap)

Any word on a date for this? I'm preparing to move in the early spring, so I'm using this span of really cold weather to pare my closets down. If we're still on for this, I'll plan on bringing the load to the swap.

December swap!

Hey ladies (and gents)!
I'm trying to gauge interest in a clothing swap for December. I wanted to know what day works best for everyone (18th, 19th, or 20th) I know most of us are tight on funds this month, so I thought this would be a good way to get together, stay warm, and get "new" clothes! I can volunteer my apartment ( by Loyola Red line). It's a bit small, and I have cats, but I think we can work with it. If everyone can chip in something to eat or drink that would be great. We can have some wine ( or if you are like me a rum and coke!), maybe have some chick flicks on the TV in the background, chat, and swap. Accessories, shoes, and sterilized make up are welcome! If you are interested please reply with what date works for you, your clothing size, and your shoe size.
If none of those dates work for you, tell me what day might work.

Any day works for me.
I wear an 2x top and 20/22 bottoms
Size 9-10 shoes.

Meet and Greet

Hey Chicago Fats!

I posted this on the main Fatshionista page and it was suggested that I repost here:

Do you wanna meet up with some of your local fats for dinner, drinks, convo, etc.?

We'd like to plan an event here is Chicago for anyone interested.  I'm thinking the easiest thing to do would be to email me (maria.cupp@gmail.com) if you are interested and I'll start a little group in my contacts and we can figure out what/where/when as a group.  I don't want to make all the other fats jealous with our fabo plans. Honestly though, I don't want to bore everyone with the painstaking process...

If anyone else has a better suggestion, I'm all ears.

Once we decide on a time/place I'll post the event!

Anybody going? I'm planning on taking Metra/CTA from north of the Cheddar Curtain (Kenosha) to the event on Saturday the 12th. It looks like I'm going to be schlepping some Wisconsin peeps along for the day, but it might be nice to meet up with localish folk at the fair too.

Blue Mermaid

OBGYN, north side

Hey all! I'm looking for a gynecologist. I've been putting it off for ages... and now would like to make an appointment to set my mind at ease. I haven't been to the GYN since moving to Chicago, and haven't been to one outside PP. I'd like to find a doc who is on the north side (my new house is in Ravenswood, so the closer the better, though I'd travel for an outstanding doc). While I hate hate hate hate HATE the procedure (seriously, I'm near tears while she's doing her thing), the biggest thing I'm looking to avoid is a doctor who is going to make me feel like trash because I'm fat. Also, I plan to ask her about fertility options, so if you know of anyone to avoid (many doctors have a problem assisting women who are overweight with fertility issues without forcing them to lose weight), please give me those names as well so I don't make an appointment with a jerk!

Oh, one more caveat - I'm really not comfortable visiting a man. Yeah, it's weird.

I know there was a similar post a while back, but I think it was looking for a south side physician. Sorry for such a similar post. Thanks in advance, ladies!

(no subject)

Hey y'all.

I was wondering if anyone here has had experience with the Howard Brown Health Center. I have seen folks talk about it, but only kind of in vague terms. I have perused their website, but I'd love to hear if you have had personal experience with them, or know someone who has.

My main questions, since I have heard that they are really fat-friendly, are:

1) will they take non-LGBT folks?

2) do they have sliding scale fees, or some kind of financial aid available?

I have a chronic pain condition, and suffer from PTSD, with a lot of resulting mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety. I also have no health coverage, and am currently unemployed. Its a little bit of a scary place to be, especially when I don't know where I'm getting my next med refill from. I've been going to the clinic at St. Joseph's Hospital, because they have decent financial aid, but the medical care there is a total joke.

Any other suggestions would be fantastic, too.

Thank you!
